My Students

My students are amazing young musicians! Our music program continues to grow, and we are focused on creating wonderful music opportunities.

Our community is urban, inclusive, and hard-working.

We are a high-poverty, Title I school. My students are wonderfully diverse, yet unified in a community of learning.

Students have band rehearsal every day. We currently have 2 beginner bands, plus a concert band (2nd year players), and a wind ensemble (3rd year players). Next school year will include choir and jazz band. My students continue to help shape this music program for years to come!

My Project

The use of microphones and recording devices in the music classroom is valuable for multiple reasons. First, it is a powerful tool for self assessment. With a high-quality microphone, students can analyze their own playing by simply listening. Letting their brain focus on the sound without trying to process fingerings and sheet music is so effective. Secondly, the goal of using a microphone to record a performance can be just as meaningful as a live performance. This certainly does not replace live performances, but it does add to the variety of performance experiences. Goal-oriented learning is always the most effective, especially in the music room. The Shure SM7B will help us achieve those goals!
