Our school is a beautifully diverse, inner-city school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, of 4% American Indian, 4% Asian, 22% African American, 52% Hispanic, 11% Caucasian, and 6% Multiracial students. Most are free and reduced lunch.
Many of our students are the first to graduate high school in their family.
My students come to school and know they are cared about. Many of these students unfortunately, do not have that when they leave our grounds. Their life battles at home and on the street are vast. They are proud but private with these matters.
I tell my students the importance of believing in yourself and knowing anything you want in life is possible with hard work. My students are bright and need to know that school has a permanent outcome in their future. They need to know college is possible for them. They are so smart, but never received proper tools to grow.
They are survivors. It is my hope to give them the tools and skills to see they have value to themselves and their community.
My Project
It took 2 years to finally receive approval to get 30, 7" Android tablets to teach App Inventors for Computer Science and AP Computer Science Principles. I finally got the tablets, but have no protection for them. They are slick and will slide off the desks, certainly damaging these new tablets.
I need drop proof cases and screen protection for the 7" Samsung Galaxy TAB A because the students are also on laptops programming, then they connect real-time with the tablets to see their app inventions.
They go
back and forth, programming and checking, so they are both on the small desk tops at the same time. These will certainly slide off the desks and be broken within a couple of weeks. These 30 tablets need to last me the next 5 years. PLEASE help us! My students are so appreciative and although, careful, accidents happen. Please help keep these slippery tablets on the desktops and not falling on the floor!
