This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a third grade teacher in a low-income, Title I school. All students receive free lunch. They are an energetic, passionate and inquisitive group of individuals.
All students can have determination to be successful but the lack of not being able to read new classroom set of appropriate books during DEAR time is difficult.
Our budget is extremely tight.
There is no money for appropriate grade level classroom books. I have a limited amount of books that are out dated. The books are also very old or damaged.
My Project
Students make important connections through high quality children's literature. They are readers and writers who are inspired by good writing. When children read at an early age, they dramatically increase their chances for academic success in later years! We have access to some books, but in many cases they're old and damaged. We need good children's literature for students to borrow and for read alouds.
I want to provide my students with an array of quality book titles to instill a love of reading at the various reading levels of my students.
The titles chosen are appropriate for a range of readers and many directly connect to Common Core 3rd grade standards, so they will easily be integrated into the curriculum!
