Help me give my students a Verbatim PinStripe 32 GB flash drive to efficiently transfer files from student laptops for 3D printing, and a mousepad to work with a mouse for better traction.
My middle school students are caring, curious, creative, and sometimes comedians. We are not an affluent community. Covid has brought additional deeper financial hardships to our families, community, and as a result, our school budget. Despite the real-life challenges many are facing daily, my students are still involved in school life, sports, and clubs. That being said, we are over 60 days safely teaching face to face! My students are in pods and teachers push into classes to keep movement in hallways at minimum. We sanitize regularly, wash our hands, frequently, wear our masks, and remain 3 to 6 feet apart. Remarkably, students wear their masks without complaints at all. It is so important for our students to have the best possible in-school experience; beyond that, we are truly loving being together.
My students are working on developing skills and mindsets that will help them to be successful in life, to be ready to take on whatever life throws their way.
My Project
What I have discovered since launching 3D designing with my middle schoolers last year, is that my students love creating, my students prefer a mouse over a trackpad, my students are growing into detail-oriented designers, and my students do not give up with a failed print.
My goal is to nurture and to encourage this growth mindset and perseverance they are demonstrating by having appropriate tools available to them.
With Flashdrives, they will be able to export their 3D file from their laptop, move to the two designated laptops, and process their designs through FlashPrint, our 3D slicing program. This will give them additional experience, responsibility, and knowledge of the 3D design process. Mousepads will add much better traction for mouse usage than our bare desks, improving mouse performance and accuracy.
