The students who are submitting this request have become familiar with the flow hive system of beekeeping and have absolutely fell in love with the innovative-ness of the product. They are like normal teenagers who enjoy working together to collectively learn more about the diverse agriculture industry and all the opportunities that come about with the industry. Ethan, Ben, and Kyle are specific students who would like to do more project-based assessments and more learning by doing, rather than notes and slideshow presentations.
Students are requesting tubing, couplers
and drip emitters to aid in the following applications; Students will develop hands on applications and math skills by learning how to construct a drip line above ground irrigation system to grow mums and other ornamental plans that will in turn allow them to practice marketing. Students will be required to figure up the cost of production and a selling point, also net intake from the project.
In Their Own Words
We want to build a watering system to grow potted plants in through the summer months that allows for all plants to be watered at one time, rather than watering by hand. There will be for several hundred plants. We will be able to study plant growth and practice our marketing skills on these plants.
We will make the most of the leadership opportunity involved in creating this project by using the materials to the fullest extent provided. We will build the drip line irrigation system and then plant into pots the plants and water, fertilize, and watch grow! This would be an amazing opportunity to allow for us to better understand what it takes to run a business and make money decisions accordingly.
This project will allow us to take ownership of a project, complete control under the guidance of our teacher, and create something to give back to our community with. Who doesn't love potted plants? This challenge will allow us to learn more about what it takes to grow plants and market to the community.
