Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I serve a mid-high school in Oklahoma. Students are in grades 7 to 12. Our students are all free and reduced lunch. Most come from low socioeconomic single-parent homes or are living with other family members, such as grandparents.
Our population is very mobile and many are homeless at various times throughout the school year.
While they face many hardships, they are hardworking students. They dream of a better future that can be achieved through education.
My Project
Many students don't have the necessary school uniform clothing. I want to stock our school clothing closet with items that will help our students meet the uniform requirement while still allowing them to fit in with the other students.
Our population of students often are very migrant and move around a lot or are homeless and living with others.
This causes them to often to have second hand clothing or no clothing that meets the uniform requirements. These students are often very self conscious about their appearance. Having pants and tops available for these students will allow them to focus on their education and not their lack of clothing.
