Our school is a Title I school with about 700 students that serves a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. Our students are amazing and work extremely hard to achieve a high level of success. We are an “A” school and were chosen as one of 27 schools by The Early Childhood Technical Assistance Center (ECTAC) for Exceeding Expectations.
I should also mention that every single classroom teacher in our wonderful school is female!
I am writing this project on behalf of my school principal. Our 5th-grade gentlemen are amazing young men that would benefit from coaching in the skills of life. He wants to share with these young men the importance of manners and proper etiquette that will help them be well-rounded individuals. He wants to seize this great opportunity to be a positive male role model for these young men!
My Project
By teaching our fifth grade young men appropriate manners and etiquette as well as dressing for success they will be instilled with a sense of pride and purpose that will carry over into their classroom learning.
The goal of this young men’s group is to teach skills like shaking hands, speaking clearly, making eye contact, holding doors, saying “please” and “thank you,” helping others, and to take pride in who they are as young men.
Our school is a uniform school that consists of polo shirts of various colors and pants/shorts in navy or khaki. Our principal wants to provide these gentlemen with dress shirts and ties to wear each week on the day the group meets so they feel special and look professional. Being dressed up will allow them to feel a sense of pride as they are in class and around campus.
Our principal believes in the mantra of “Look good, feel good, do good.” His hope is that by meeting with these young men each week and dressing the part we will see an improvement in their behavior and their learning!
