This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Many of my students are from diverse backgrounds. I have students who have family members that may have completed school and some who haven't. More than 85 percent of my students come from poverty/low-income housing, receive free or reduced-priced lunch, and education is not high on their list. These students face daily challenges that hinder them from their full potential.
Since teaching here, I have found that our students want to become better students, which will lead to better citizens but funding is needed to help with the life experiences needed to propel them.
The students at this school have school spirit stored in them and they will do whatever they can to make sure they are successful.
My Project
Our track team has been fundraising to get new things. Our program is growing but the funds to help the boys and girls out are decreasing. With us being a small K-12 school, our athletic budget is very small, and we rarely receive new or used equipment. It is important that our team has uniforms for the upcoming track season.
One adversity players should not be facing is the lack of track uniforms, the only thing players should worry about is competing.
The players on the team are extremely talented and work really hard every day to get better not only as individuals, but also as a team. It would be unfair to have them compete in uniforms that are perhaps as old as some of them.
