The students at the Employment & Transition Program are hardworking and future-oriented young adults who spend their mornings learning valuable job skills and their afternoons engaged in community activities to build life skills. Our classroom at ETP currently serves 45 students who have a wide array of intellectual and developmental disabilities. These students are between 18-21 years old, and they are ready to begin paid employment! Their unpaid internships in the community are the foundations of their successes as they gain independence, and as they transition into the world of adult services.
ETP students work hard, but they also have a lot of fun while at school.
Our classroom is filled with laughter, dancing, delicious food, teamwork, and personal growth.
My Project
My students participate daily in unpaid internships in their community. Their internships range from retail stores, food banks, restaurants and warehouses. These internships provide my students with real world job skills and hands-on training. These materials will give my students the opportunity to practice the job skill of customizing shirts that they will wear to their unpaid internships.
Having professional attire to wear to their internships will help my students with potential employment, as well as create a positive image of our program to the community.
Having consistent and appropriate attire to wear at internships will help my students and others see their value as professional employees. We are asking for 100 shirts so that my students will always have the opportunity to wear a clean and professional shirt. In addition having extra shirts will allow my students to practice the life skill of doing laundry. My students will be using the vinyl to customize the polos with our school name and logo.
