Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My full day Kindergarteners at Camino Nuevo Charter Academy really love their housekeeping corner. It is the one area in the classroom where they can pretend to play school, restaurant, or office. With Kindergarten being so academic, most of my students lack the basic vocabulary to succeed when school starts. Dramatic play is an area where they can freely explore the vocabulary that has been taught in the morning free of ridicule and embarrassment. Learning does not just take place sitting at a desk filling out worksheets. In order for students to learn the English language, they must be able to have ample opportunity to explore it. One of the themes explored in Kindergarten is Occupations. I propose two sets of occupation dramatic play outfits. I want my students to aspire to go to college to become one of the occupations they are curious about. Most of our parents at our school have not attended college or some have not finished high school. By dressing up as a doctor, veterinarian, firefighter, astronaut, or pilot, my students will be encouraged to follow their interests as they get older. Thank you for your consideration.
