Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are in an Early Childhood Special Education classroom. My students are three year olds who are first receiving services in a school setting. Our campus houses the entire districts three year olds receiving special education service who need more individualized instruction to work towards inclusion in PreKinder classroom. The students that come into my classroom have learning disabilities, autism, down syndrome, and a few students with ADHD. Some of my students are nonverbal yet we have a lot assistive technology and on campus speech therapy. I believe this center will allow all students real world experiences especially when we incorporate community workers later in the year.
My Project
The materials will allow us to add dress-up center to our classroom. I choose this center furniture because we can hang clothes which is a life skill and good for fine motor skills. Also, the furniture is mobile which is helpful when rearranging room throughout the year. I choose the animals because it will be good for them to act out each animal. My vision for this center is dress up materials can be added with different thematic unit. I see this center have great extensions for role playing topics we are learning about in classroom. We already have community worker costumes and superhero capes.
