Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love technology. They want to learn how to give a presentation using different mediums. Unfortunately, our school does not always have the resources for them to really complete their vision. Not all of my middle schoolers have cell phones. Certain students do not even have Internet access or a computer at home.
Here, in school, is the only place some of them have any access to a computer, tablet or camera equipment.
It is a great joy to see them present a video project and be proud of their work.
My Project
Resources such as iPads are not available at my school. My class focuses on the Media Arts, an area that is very new to many of my students. They want to create innovative, visual projects using different forms of technology other than just a PowerPoint type presentation. For example, when students are creating their own commercials and designing their own products, they want a realistic production. The iPad helps give them that realism as they can use various green screen, animation, voice, video and editing apps. However, the only iPad in the classroom is my own personal device. I have some large classes and one device is not enough.
To truly help my students learn more, create more, dream more; I need another iPad in the classroom.
That is what teaching is all about, getting students excited and engaged about learning. Helping them to bring their vision to life. My students are beginning to experience another world, the Media Arts world. Some talk now of their dream careers in directing, advertising, marketing, public relations, animation and so much more. They get excited about delivering a speech because of the visual aids they can create. But not all of them can complete their vision or take advantage of the apps because we are limited to one iPad. One more iPad would make a world of difference.
