Help me give my students a da Vinci 2.0 Duo 3D printer so they can print items they designed during computer science & engineering lessons. This technology will be used to assess their work.
We are a Title I school with greater than 76% poverty. My students are from high-poverty, rural communities. Many of my students are on a bus ride the length of a class period. During inclement weather, they may miss school. That could mean they also miss supervision, meals, and warmth. When my students are engaged, they don't have time to think about other things they can't control.
STEAM activities are a great way to engage students, but the materials are expensive.
Due to reduced enrollment and high-poverty, our school consolidated with three schools in three counties. Limited funds, limit my classroom materials.
My Project
3D printing is both fun & fascinating. My students are engaged in their computer science project because they become invested in seeing the outcome. Their computer monitor will only show them a 2D image of what their design should look like when it is printed, but the da Vinci 2.0 Duo 3D printer will show them exactly what they designed.
3D printing their design is a crucial step of the engineering & design process.
It is impossible for my students to know if they have a functional design without printing and testing it.
3D printing is time consuming and a simple project of a 4" scale may take four hours to print. In the event other students are ready to print, there is an error in the equipment, or I have transported the 3D printer to another campus, my students will be unable to check the progress of their design. Please help my students get the most out of their lesson by providing this da Vinci 2.0 Duo 3D printer.
