My school is located in a small, rural community. Our school received a grant to provide breakfast and lunch at no cost to the students. Many find funds are limited to be able to afford school supplies. Our neighborhoods are those of a quiet, quaint little country towns that have nothing for our youth to do, sometimes resulting in them finding trouble. They are limited to experiencing things only through school activities. The majority of the student body population depend on the school for outside activities and unique experiences. The students find their individually through the clubs they participate in, whether it is art, music, drama, FFA, and/or JROTC; a freedom of expression. These activities provide the students with advancement in the areas of their interests. My students are special, because many of them do not have an opportunity to express themselves as individuals. They find this opportunity within the extracurricular activities in and outside the classroom.
My Project
The art project supplies will provide new experiences for the art students. All supplies will be used to create displays of student artwork which will provide opportunity to host art nights in our community. We will use the clay and markers to create career puppets with backdrops. This will tie into our college and career ready focus for our students. The fluorescent paints on black canvas will create an unusual black light display in our school. Both projects will bring our students, parents, and community together. The puzzles pieces will provide a unique opportunity for our students to express themselves as a needed part of the puzzle in the world. With a limited art budget, the extras needed to accomplish these projects are not possible. My students and I hope to have these new experiences in art this school year.
