Dream Home Model

Help me give my students the materials needed for actualizing their computer designed buildings. The foam board is the greatest expense, but also the greatest need as it is the backbone on the building models.

My Students

The two scholars I am trying to fund, began last year in Building Design One, with the most basic skill set in Computer Aided Design from the previous year. Their skills increased at a rate that was above and beyond their peers, with a focus in class that surpassed expectations. Eventually they wanted a more intensive curriculum.

I have two of the most motivated and talented Architectural Design scholars in my 7th period class.

The two have been running software for design all last year, and have graduated to the next level of awesome! The talent and passion these scholars have for the subject is awe inspiring!

Two years ago our school moved into a new building that was partially designed by our Building Design scholars. The two scholars I have saw this as 8th graders and want the same experience. Our new school is built, but the opportunity exists for them to design and build scale models of buildings they design themselves in our architectural software.

My Project

Designing architectural buildings on paper and computer modeling is fantastic, but it is only part of the experience. Building scale models of the computer rendered and paper designs allows the scholars to feel the depth of their designs.

It is one thing to share a computer rendered model of your dream home design, but for a scholar to put it on display for the entire school to see, that is a true sense of accomplishment.

The Advanced Building Design scholars I have will take the homes they have design in a state of the art architectural design suite, and build scale models for display in the rotunda in our Academy's front entrance.

This will be a nine week assignment, building three separate structures in Architecture Design. The homes will be built with the 1/16" foam board with the 1/4" mighty core board acting as the base for the build. Roofing material will be from the wood board and windows using the acetate sheets. Tools will be recycled for further Architecture scholars in future builds.
