Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Dream Big! The theme of my school this year perfectly embodies my students. Their hunger to learn makes my heart smile every day. These kids have not had the easiest lives, but they have not let their hardships deter them.
They have goals of becoming doctors, helping animals, and working in banks when they grow up.
Their faces light up when they talk about their dreams of going to college and having a career. Although they have faced and will face many challenges in life, I want to give them every opportunity to achieve their dreams!
My Project
We are requesting 20 touch-screen tablets and 20 covers with keyboards to enhance learning in the classroom. Most of my students do not have access to technology at home and in the classroom we have only 3 computers for students to rotate on when receiving enhancement and support. The computer labs in the school are used by all 50 classes to complete an online reading program. Even still, students are expected to take their standardized testing for math on a computer at the end of the school year. These tablets will allow them to build their confidence when using technology and increase their foundational typing skills.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve student engagement, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
I plan on using the tablets with my students to enhance their collaboration and discussion skills with technology sites like Padlet, Kahoot, and Nearpod. These sites allow students to post immediate feedback and questions which will allow me to assess their understanding of the concepts we are learning. The tablets will also be used to enhance and support their learning through websites like MobyMax, iReady, Think Central, and FASTT Math. In addition, the research opportunities that the tablets will provide will open the walls of our classroom and give students new insights into the world around us.
The donations to our project will support all subject areas and increase student success because of the experience and excitement of using technology. Providing students with individual tablets will help me learn more about my students and meet their individual needs.
