My students need a copy of The Last Lecture. Instead of each student having a personal copy I am opting for a class set so I can teach this novel to every class.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are energetic, inquisitive, and constantly keep me on my toes. Coming from all different backgrounds my students are so accepting of the people around them and seek to get to know the person beside them or across the room.
My students remind me every single day why I chose this profession.
Whether it be a good morning hug, the smile that crosses their face when they understand a literary element, or a wave down a hallway--my students are my biggest fans and I theirs.
My Project
Have you ever read a book that changed your life? There you go, you're thinking about it right now! Good! Remember how it made you feel to hold that book in your hands, to feel the pages beneath your palms and to feel like your world was teetering on your fingertips turning the next page? I do. "The Last Lecture," by Randy Pausch is a novel about a professor from Carnegie Mellon who, after being diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, gave his very last lecture. It is a memoir about achieving your dreams and not letting life pass you by simply because the hand you were dealt is less than appealing. This book changed my outlook on life and by helping me give this gift to my students you will have a hand in shaping the future of these kids.
