My project needs 30 Blick Artist sketch pads as a tool for creative expression and writing.
This project expired on January 22, 2008.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
I am an art teacher in southeast Jamaica at an elementary school. My students are developing a love of drawing and I can see their potential. Recently the kindergarten class teachers put up their "How To Books" on the bulletin boards and many of them reflected the lessons that I taught them early on in the school year. "How to Draw a Fish" was a lesson I presented to them using the 3M-method beginning by seeing and drawing the large shapes first, then the medium shapes and finally the micro shapes. The book was quite nice. I was impressed!
I know that the cost of a sketchbook is a big expense for many of my students. So I am asking if you could donate sketchbooks for one of my classes. I have 600 students, K-6, but your donation could be the beginning of many more sketchbooks to come.
A sketchbook is so important in any grade, especially the lower grades, because a drawing leads to writing. Recently in my first grade class I asked the students to draw a picture using secondary colors. Next, I asked several of the students to write a story about the picture they drew. I have three very interesting stories on notebook paper as a result of that request. I know there are many, many more stories to tell and having a sketchbook would make it all the more easier...Why?
1) A sketchbook is bound and can hold a lot of pictures and words.
2) A sketchbook can be brought to the museum by a student to document their experience and sketch.
3) A sketchbook can be used as an inquiry and observation journal.
4) A sketchbook can be used as a sequential representation of a student's artistic growth.
5) A sketchbook's drawings can be used as seeds to create stories.
6) A sketchbook is a professional tool and students need to use excellent materials at a young age.
I want the students to use the sketchbook as an "idea" book teaching them to choose an idea, develop it further, make revisions, edit and then pick the perfect medium, paper and color palette to execute it.
