My school is situated in a high poverty area. The buildings are old, but are organized as a pleasant open-air space. The school is populated by 400 vivacious children who are mild-mannered and eager to learn.
Our school was just granted a STEAM certification designation despite the many challenges that our students are facing.
Most of the students in our school are English language learners.
However, hands-on learning surpasses any language barriers. The students are excited about learning robotics, programming 3D printing and more of the like. They are challenged to learn to work together and solve problems as a team.
My students are excited about learning how to draw. They have been asking to learn how to use electronic devices to practice their drawing skills. Unfortunately, our art room is not equipped accordingly.
They are eager to use a drawing tablet with wooden manikins as models to help them practice their skills.
They also want to learn how to draw hand gestures using wooden hand models.
With these items, they will not only be motivated to draw but they will learn how some of the facets of graphic design work. It will provide the perfect blend of modern and classical art.
