I teach Pre-school through 12th grade art at a small, rural school. Our students come with a wide range of talents and come from varying socio-economic backgrounds.
Our students are very creative and always eager to learn!
We currently have about 25 students who participate in our school Art Club. These students range in grade from 4th to 8th. Art Club gives these students a chance to explore other artistic avenues besides those found in the regular classroom. Art Club is a fun time for students to spend with peers with like interests.
My Project
I often have Art Club students who ask for how-to drawing books to look at and learn to draw from. With the wide range of interests that our Art Club students have, each student is often working on a project that is far different from those of the students who are sitting next to them. Having how-to drawing books available during Art Club will enable students to work on the basics of drawing everything from dragons to vehicles. These step by step drawing books enable students to have something right at their desk to look at and walk them through the drawing steps of the particular subject matter they have chosen. These drawing books will also allow students to try something on their own, while they are waiting for one-on-one instruction time with the teacher.
Having these resources available will encourage students to try new things.
It is important for students to move out of their comfort zone and try out new subject matter. Trying new things and getting practice will help improve their overall drawing ability.
