Forty years ago, Apple was just a fruit. Twenty years ago, Google was just a funny word. Did you know that over half of the jobs that current pre-kindergarten students will hold when they graduate high school in 2035 don't even exist yet?
I work as the instructional/educational technology teacher in the computer lab of a great, diverse, and effective school.
Here, we have a mix of students who live locally, within walking distance, and many others who travel by school bus, city bus, and private van service to come to our school daily.
We have general education classes, special education services, and students who have been identified as gifted and talented. Our students were born in this country or overseas, and many are new to the English language. I teach students with professional parents and students who rely on government assistance for additional financial support. Every one of these students touches my life and are important to me.
My Project
I am so excited to be facilitating our school's Tech-Create club once again this year. This once-per-week club is a fun way for selected and interested 3rd, 4th and 5th-grade students to work together, using technology to be creative.
Along with digital photography, one of the fun aspects of this club will be working with the school's 3Doodler pens.
The students will be using the pens (one for each participating student), to integrate technology and art, creating personalized designs, logos, wall hangings, and even Tic-Tac-Toe game sets! They will be able to do this using the requested multi-colored plastic filament. I know that using this filament in our club will expand the fun and creativity, providing a technology-meets-art outlet for self-expression, and a hands-on, minds-on experience!
