My students are between the ages of 3 to 5 years. There is a lot of movement. Their little bodies are not made for sitting in a chair for long periods of time.
We explore through play and by hands-on experiences.
It is hard to sit and listen, we need lots of visuals to learn. Not only do we need lots of visuals, we need different visuals to keep things interesting.
I work with preschool special education students. We learn in many different ways. Every day is something different and we overcome many challenges.
My Project
As our classroom evolves, one area I feel we need growth in is our Dramatic Play center. Since moving into a new classroom, I feel that our dramatic play area is lacking materials. I would like something different that goes well with our curriculum's theme.
Dramatic Play is important to utilize my student's imagination and social emotional skills.
My students love going to the dramatic play center during center time. They can pretend to cook food with the kitchen, we've put out "fires" during community helpers week. Now, I'd like to give more options. We talk about doctors, and pets, and fairy tales. They enjoy acting out the three little pigs and the billy goats gruff. The puppets will extend the initial lesson and gives them practice retelling the story.
Imagination is very important in my teaching philosophy. I want to encourage creativity and imagination in a world where technology is everywhere. This project will help my classroom materials grow and further our continued growth of social emotional skills.
