I teach Pre-K at an Early Childhood School in Texas. My class is a Blended class consisting of At-Risk students based on income, English is their second language, or they are special needs. My students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are creative, energetic and always ready to experience something new!
They love to move, read, and learn! Many of them are being raised in single parent households and ALL of my students receive a free breakfast/lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. My goal is to inspire even our earliest students to become lifelong learners!
My Project
There are incredible benefits to dramatic play in Pre-K students. Dramatic play teaches self-regulation and helps children express their inner feelings. Pretend play allows children to experiment with and learn about the power of language, and how it affects us and those around us and also to communicate in meaningful ways.
Dramatic play helps children develop both fine motor and gross motor skills - such as a fire fighter climbing or a mommy dressing her baby.
Dramatic play also helps children learn about their community, their surrounding environment, and a variety of careers they can choose from when they are older.
