My students come from an area that has a high percentage of low-income families. They come to school for more than just education. They need a safe space that they are able to explore, release, relax, and grow. Some students may not have this space at home and this will be a place that they can grow in these experiences.
My classroom has the opportunity to provide learners a individualized approach to each learners' ability and style.
We are always learning by structured programs, naturalistic learning activities, and step by step modeled behaviors and learning opportunities.
We are at our most successful when we are able to have many chances for learning and repeated practice for each new activity or expectation we have for our students. Providing this dramatic play practice enables students to see what their expectations are and what the new task or activity we are teaching is supposed to look like.
By having dramatic play resources in the classroom such as a kitchen, store set, and laundry set this allows my students to have repetitive practice and learning opportunities prior to going and using the real materials.
This provides learning opportunities that may have errors that can be corrected and fixed while in a relaxed environment.
By pre-teaching strategies, my students are able to learn and apply when they are in their real life experiences.
Providing multiple different exposures to materials creates opportunity for success and engagement. When students are happy and engaged they are able to complete hard tasks with confidence.
