My students attend a public school with two full day kindergartens. There are 328 students in grades K-6. Ninety six percent of the students receive free or reduced price lunch. I have 23 kindergarten students in my class. Some students attended a Head Start or daycare before kindergarten. Others have never been in a school setting before.
We have a Dramatic Play Lab that the students love using.
It has a kitchen and play food and two noticeably well enjoyed baby dolls. The dolls need clothing in better condition. The kitchen needs some new food and utensils. I would like to add career type dress up clothes for the students as well.
These materials will help my students enjoy the Dramatic Play Lab, increase communication and teamwork, encourage career interests, and provide them with tools to further develop their creativity and imagination. The students will be able to use the baby dolls, clothing, and baby feeding supplies that are missing from our Dramatic Play Lab. They will be able to dress up in career clothing while using the Dramatic Play Lab. Students have 16 units of study in which dramatic play is used to act out certain careers, such as doctor, veteranarian, play school, community helpers, farmer, store cashier, and stock person. We also have a career readiness assignment that these experiences will contribute to in discussion of future professional interests. They will have a phone and appliances that they never had before. Supplies that have broken over time will be replaced by the new items that are purchased by the generous donors.
