Help me give my students an opportunity for more dramatic play with this children's play kitchen and dishes. I am also asking for a large rug for our classroom where students can sit comfortably during our learning time.
This year I have the privilege of teaching a transitional 1st grade class. This class is filled with students that need a little more time to develop academically and socially before heading into a standard first grade classroom. Because of this, I find them in need of a little extra play and imaginative play in order to develop important social skills.
In my classroom, we work hard on building relationships with each other.
I teach my students empathy, compassion, and the importance of being a class family. In our school, we have a passion for teaching social emotional learning and teaching students how to manage their emotions. I also encourage imagination and exploration.
My Project
With the rise in technology, students are losing some of the basic social skills that are so important for their development.
I find it very important for students to use their imagination during morning play time.
We start our morning with free play. We have toys, puzzles, blocks, dolls, etc and my students love starting their day this way. I would love to add in more dramatic play choices by having a "play kitchen". This will allow students to use their imagination and connect with each other each and every day.
I am also asking for a large area rug for our classroom to make their learning time as comfortable as possible. After our free play time, we start our learning time together on our classroom rug. Unfortunately, after years of use, we are in need of a new one. We spend so much of our day in this spot for calendar time, reading stories, Math, Literacy centers, and so much more.
