My school has an unique population of students. My students come from traditional and non-traditional home settings in a town that is suffering from a loss of our working mill. We have closed a school and merged into one building. These kids are mostly from farms, multi-family homes, and rural settings.
My school is full of little Mainers with big dreams and it's my job to get them started on the right path!
My school is a professional community of life-long learners with a common goal: Teach every child.
My Project
Years ago, primary school was filled with play-based learning. Then the nation decided we needed to be purely academic. This gave us the Common Core State Standards.
Now, we are realizing that primary schools need to have a balanced learning environment that supports rigorous academics and play.
I envision the puppet theater and puppets to be part of our classroom library, a place where the students can use their oral story-telling to be creative or to retell classics that they love.
The kitchen set will be used in our math workshop and it will provide a place for imagination, counting, money play, sequencing, wants and needs, and role playing. Thank you for considering this project for your donation!
