Mrs. Zafiris from Mobile AL is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need easy to read Dr. Seuss books to use at home and in the classroom to build fluency and enthusiasm for literacy.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
As a teacher at a low-income, high poverty area, my students are faced with both good and challenging situations. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. All the students at my school want a chance to enhance and reach for the stars. I want my students to have a great advantage in education.
Many of them are being raised in foster care, single-parent homes, or with a close relative.
The demographics in the areas where they live are not conducive to acceptable learning. When my students walk in my door, I want them to identify their exceptional characteristics, develop positive self-esteem, and feel they are cherished. I want them to know that my classroom is a heartfelt, inspiring, and encouraging environment where creativity is encouraged through self-expression and imagination.
My students want to experience their learning using hands-on activities. When I provide an atmosphere of involvement, their learning increases tremendously. Your donation will help give us the materials to make great thinkers and learning fun.
Taking a real hardcover book home to read would get my students excited about reading each night! At the moment, my students take home copies of sentences and reproduced copies of short stories that come from our reading series for their daily reading. While these reading materials are leveled appropriately they are not filled with beautiful illustrations and whimsical fun language like the Dr. Seuss books. I want to inspire my students to read at home and at school with this high quality literature.
My project is important because good quality literature is a wonderful way to inspire life long readers.
I need high quality literature to send home with my students so that they learn to read not just at school, but at home too!
