Each morning, my students come into class with smiles on their faces! They do a fabulous job at the routines and rituals they practice. Throughout second grade, we explore a variety of different topics and begin diving into chapter books! I try and get my second graders excited for the journey of where books may take them and want to get them excited to read! We have a high population of students who receive free and reduced-price lunches at our school, but that doesn't stop them from having the desire to learn and grow!
My Project
Dr. Seuss is one of the best known authors. His books are highly engaging and silly and students seem to enjoy hearing his stories. One thematic unit my class participates in is a Dr. Seuss inspired week leading up to Read Across America day. We try to invite parents and other community members in to read to the class so others can share in the delight of Dr. Seuss books. These books would allow us to have them as independent reading books and use them as a class throughout the year.
Students love finding all of the rhyming words and nonsense words in these books!
These books would mean a great deal to our classroom!
