Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My amazing group of 12 students with intellectual disabilities come into school every morning with a bright smile and a positive attitude to tackle the day, no matter their circumstances. They love unconditionally and cheer for everyone. Many of my students come from low income homes and deal with struggles that would cause any student difficulty, but they have what it takes to overcome anything. Their pure joy and happiness is contagious as we transition throughout the school day as we see our peers in the hallways and cafeteria.
My Project
I would like to create a reading nook/calm down spot for my students in my classroom. My classroom is rather small and doesn't really have a spot where students can go if they need a minute to cool down.
As a special education teacher, I think it's really important that my students know they have a place to go when they get overstimulated.
This reading nook/calm down spot will offer them exactly that - they will have a place to go to compose and refocus themselves so once they get back to their desks they will be ready to learn!
