Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Be awesome! Be a book nut!" (Dr. Seuss) What a wonderful quote! I want my students to be book nuts! I want them to create their own books and share them with other book nuts!
My third grade magnet students are creative, focused, and fun-loving.
They enjoy a hands-on approach to learning and are motivated to do their very best. They attend school in a low income area, and the entire school is on a government funded free breakfast and lunch program.
My Project
My students love art and are developing as writers. Since writing is a difficult skill to master, it is exciting to watch them progress as writers and to find their voice. Our current unit in Language Arts is "Express Yourself". We learned about the process authors and illustrators go through in order to write, illustrate, and publish their books. For this project, my students will write and illustrate their stories. They will use the long reach stapler, binding combs, sharpies, and colored pencils to complete their own books.
The resources will enable my students to create their own professional books.
They will have the opportunity to think like an author and illustrator. How proud my students will be to share their books with fellow book nuts of all ages!
