Our school is set in a small and quiet neighborhood. Right next to a Navy base, some of the families are military, while many come from low-income households. I have an array of ESE, RTI, gifted, and IEP identified students. Regardless of their label, each student is a sweet, shining star in my room.
My school is a Title I school, and 100% of the children receive free breakfast and lunch.
My students come from all walks of life; each of their stories are moving and intriguing. They are fun, creative, and hardworking kids that enjoy coming to school each day and are truly excited to learn.
This coming year I know I will have 20-25 of the sweetest kids you will find. While each one of my students learns in a different way, they love doing hands-on projects where they are collaborating with their peers.
I believe that students should be moving, laughing, and enjoying their learning. I want to give my students all the fun experiences that I can in school. With reading buddies and co-class projects (which include other grade level connections), I believe in facilitating their learning while they take the reins to steer their education.
My Project
I found out recently that I will be moving grade levels (YIKES!) After six years in second grade in the same class, I am moving up to fourth grade and to a much bigger room. I am excited and nervous all at the same time. I will get to have some of my former babies again. With a new grade level means my younger elephant themed classroom will no longer work. Needing to revamp my room and make it more age appropriate, I will use the ink print up many new materials for my reading nook as well as other new requirements needed for my incoming fourth graders.
My students will be able to use a comfortable area to explore books and do group work in my class.
My students have always been encouraged to find anywhere in my class to read a good book. Having a bigger room means I can finally have a designated reading and ELA nook that I have always want to give my students.
I am also looking for items to help contain and organize backpacks and recess equipment. The tubs and containers will help keep all of their book bags and our recess things together and out of the way to avoid having a trip hazard since this room does not have any cubbies or backpack storage.
