My Students
The current pandemic has caused much chaos in the world and has definitely had a huge effect on the learning environment. Right now, all of my students are home doing their best to complete the given work. There have been major challenges throughout this time that have made it close to impossible for students to be as successful as they could if we were in the classroom. About 80% of my students are ESL and do have difficulty understanding the work given. Not being able to physically be with them makes it that much more difficult for them to understand. In addition, working in a low-income area has proved that there are even greater disparities among districts. Many students do not have computers, and though the school provided them, many students did not have internet access.
My Project
Nothing could have prepared us for a pandemic or the impact it would have on our education system. This has been one of the most unique school years we have ever experienced. In the process of virtual teaching, I have discovered some items I need to successfully continue teaching online. I found that additional computer monitors make remote teaching easier and more sufficient.
One of the greatest challenges with remote learning is being able to monitor student engagement, participation, and attention along with presenting and teaching the material.
Having two monitors will allow me to juggle all these tasks and be able to efficiently teach my students. Many fellow colleagues have been using this two monitor method while teaching at home. It has proved to be very beneficial. I believe that having two monitors will help to relieve much of the pressure associated with remote teaching and learning.
