My Students

My students are passionate about learning, always trying their best, and sharing their best selves with each other. Some come from households where much is provided and others work hard to barely get by. It is this rich dynamic with which we make music each and every day. Excitement, enthusiasm, wonder, discovery, a willingness to take risks and a shared interest in working with one another are just some of the great characteristics these students have and why they shine so brightly.

My Project

Students learn when they are able to playfully explore and interact with instruments and each other in the music room. My classroom is an exploratory musical space where all thoughts are valued and student input is at the core of our learning.

To sing, play and dance all day, we need authentic and accessible instruments like tubanos for students of all ages to play.

Students from Kindergarten through 5th grade love the tubano drums, but all too often students have to wait to play them with only a few in my classroom. This project will add 3 more tubano drums to my classroom, doubling what we have currently! This will enhance learning, put smiles on students' faces, and create a playful and musical classroom for all.
