Don't You Hate It When You Can't Hear Anything in a Video?
My students need a microphone with windscreen that connects to an iPad for videos and interviews, because without it, the sound is too faint/low.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
With STEM and Common Core State Standards, we are incorporating more opportunities to use technology across the curriculum. I am trying to give my students the opportunity to "show" what they learn through making videos. Recently we received a green screen for videos, but the sound quality is missing.
My students are striving for ways to participate in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities.
Our California school is a magnet school of math, science, and technology; it is the first newly-adopted magnet school program in the district. Let me give you a brief description of my 4th grade classroom and school.
Our school is in a high-poverty, low socioeconomic area with 91% of our school receiving free or reduced-price breakfast and/or lunch. The demographics are: 86% Hispanic, 7% African-American, 6% Caucasian, 1% Other. At our school, 57% of our students are English language learners. Only 22% of our parents have taken a college or vocational class, and about 4% have a college degree.
My Project
Help my 4th graders "show what they know" by using a higher quality microphone with windscreen. By adding the audio and sound recording to these videos, it will improve the quality level of the videos. My Magnet School Program (Math, Science, and Technology) is trying to incorporate more technology into the curriculum all the time. If they were able to create videos to describe the process of something they are learning, how much more powerful would that be?
The videos could be shared by the entire school, grade level, and/or on the Internet for anyone to use. Video creation allows students to use their higher-level thinking skills like critical thinking and problem solving. We have the cameras, but we would like to take our videos to the next level with green screen technology and audio equipment. It will also be used to conduct interviews for our weekly school news show.
I envision my students working in teams and collaborating to spread their knowledge by creating these videos.
Their creative minds need to be expanded. The green screen (already donated) and audio equipment can let their imaginations run wild! As you can see, the audio equipment will help my students "show what they know" by creating videos of what they are learning in all subjects. Can't you just see these kids teaching each other what they learned and having fun creating videos?
