My Students

My students are so enthusiastic about learning to read and make music with their voices, bodies, and instruments! They thrive when given the opportunity to learn through hands-on activities. They are particularly invested when we connect our music learning to Art and PE and cultures and traditions from other countries.

Our students are so kind, encouraging, and supportive of each other through the learning process!

In just a short time, our school community has become like a family. In the music room, it is amazing to see them work together to improve their classes' overall musicianship!

My Project

Learning to play the steel drums, also known as pan drums, would be a stepping stone into learning about the music traditions and culture of Trinidad and Tobago.

Through the learning process, students will improve their music literacy, ensemble playing, rhythm, and coordination skills.

Students will learn to sing traditional folk songs from the Caribbean region and then play the melodies on the steel drums. Students will accompany the melody with a rhythmic classroom instrument, such as a shaker or hand drum. For the rhythmic instruments, students will create ostinatos to accompany each folk tune. Students will have the opportunity to perform for our school community.
