This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a large high school (1700 students) in a rural area. Our Physics classes have grown exponentially, but our equipment has not. As we moved from one teacher to three, we suddenly found ourselves in a severe lack of laboratory equipment. Plus, with the changes to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) we are updating our curriculum.

We are the older, and now smaller, of two comprehensive high schools in our district.

Our students are mainly second language, and the majority of them qualify for free or reduced lunch. Many of them will be the first ones in their family to attend college.

My Project

It may sound far too simple, but slotted masses play a huge part in the Physics curriculum. We use these masses in a variety of lab experiments, and our old sets have lost pieces over time. Plus, now that we have more teachers, we need more lab set ups.

Good mass sets are an important part in the lab.

We need more high quality masses to use in class. Our students deserve to be able to complete the lab activities without having to share mass sets with other lab groups and classrooms. Having these mass sets will take a “massive” load off my mind. Please help us with this massive project.
