Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a second year fourth grade teacher in the Castle Hill/ Soundview section of the Bronx. I am currently asking for black ink cartridges for the two printer/copiers in my room. Currently, the printers frequently run out of black ink. One might wonder why I would be running out of ink so frequently. During my first year of teaching I received six donated computers and and two multi-function printers.
I was constantly printing student work for both display and also for students to keep. It was motivational because they loved using the computers and they loved showing their families the work. I even started a computer club where I taught students how to use microsoft excel, word, and powerpoint.
Students created a powerpoint presentation about an animal they had to do research on to find out new information. I love doing these type of activities with my students and printing them out. Parents were AMAZED at what their children were able to do. So often, technology is inaccessible to the population of students at my school. The new computers, programs, and skills belong to other people in other places. This puts students at a long term disadvantage.
My students are at an age where they are not intimidated, so now that my students have access to this technology they are jumping right in. Please allow me to continue to print it for them to keep.
Additionally, I use the printers to print awards for students. This is a classroom management and incentive that really gets students to complete work.
Additionally, I use the copy function of the machines to copy skill builders for the students, if they finish work early, as well as to create class set books with my newly donated book binder.
Running to buy two ink cartridges every two weeks is breaking my teacher wallet! Please help all these different elements of my classroom that are dependant upon printers with ink continue to happen.
