This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Inquisitive minds, warm hearts, helpful hands, and sponges for brains. These are just some of the ways you could describe the students that walk through our classroom doors each day.

Our students, with limited English skills, live in a high-poverty, big-city community where the goal is to help them blossom into productive learners and speakers.

Their willingness to work hard and achieve is evident in all that they do. They may come from homes where paying the rent and buying food is the priority. Therefore, it is so important for us to support them in as many ways as we can to give them every chance to succeed.

My Project

I am requesting subscriptions to TIME for Kids. The students would genuinely benefit from a subscription to Time for Kids weekly news magazine. Their lives sometimes seem limited because of their socio-economic status. Few of them have the traditional summer vacation experience. Their experiences are often limited to their neighborhood.

By adding Time for Kids to their school year, my students will have the opportunity to learn so many things about the world beyond the streets they walk on each day.

The variety of articles that appear will help them with their literacy skills and social studies knowledge. They will also learn how students just like them may have different experiences and lives, but they still have so much in common.
