My students need 28 copies of "28, Stories of AIDS in Africa" to spark their interest; construction paper and chart paper to create projects; and individual white boards and markers to practice skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My charter organization in budget debt has resulted in the severe resource shortage at my school site. As we work together, it is increasingly arduous to dig deeper without the necessary tools and materials to achieve our learning goals for success.
My 6th and 7th graders have lost the chance to discover new books, hone their literacy skills, and expose their creativity.
My students crave the opportunity to create projects, write stories, essays, and letters. They want to walk into a classroom and receive a book to hold, as opposed to the photocopied packets they have grown accustomed to.
Despite these desires, their school and charter organization have been unable to meet their basic needs in the classroom. 120 students who have the energy, determination, and charisma to meet academic challenges, but unfortunately have never encountered an environment geared toward deep learning. They have been exposed to low interest novels, packets, generic textbooks, and in the end a mundane classroom experience. They seek access to the same resources as middle schoolers in other communities receive, which would allow them to compete and attend high schools and universities.
My Project
With the novel, The Outsiders, we will be able to explore societal trends, human nature and characteristics, and human identity. All these themes impact my students on a daily basis at school, in their communities, and inside their families. By having access to this important novel, students will be able to better analyze their own lives.
The materials will allow us to create posters, projects, and individual representations of the novel's underlying meanings. Students will learn how to interpret literature and how to share information. The best way to learn is by teaching others. I want my students to have the learning centered around them and maintain the role of facilitator. By providing us with these resources, my students can better take on the task of teaching and explaining. They will feel better connected to the material. Finally, the excitement for learning will be enhanced, which will affect student progress throughout their school days and onto graduation.
My project will excite my students and inspire them to take an active role in creating their own projects.
Students need to see a real change in the classroom in order for us to change their current learning path. They will be better able to create, view assignments, organize materials, and share ideas. These items will greatly expand the opportunities in their English class, which will strengthen their skills in other areas as well. Literacy is the key to all learning and communication!
