My Students

Our school is a small, rural Pre-K-5th school in northeast Limestone County, Alabama. Total enrollment is just over 400 children with 67% of students receiving free and/or reduced-price meals, making us a Title I school. This year I will have 3 classes of 24-25 each rotating through my Science and Social Studies class.

My students are very digitally oriented but our Science class is very hands-on through the use of AMSTI (Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative) kits, provided by the school system.

We use a variety of hands-on activities and resources to explore and review concepts that are taught during whole group and small group instruction. I make efforts to include and incorporate coding and STEM activities into our classroom instruction and the students respond to these to these types of activities very well.

My Project

Our students are faced with many different challenges each day. We have bullies that don't understand why what they are doing is seen as bullying. These books give our students a glimpse at how it feels to be on the other side.

As a 5th grade teacher, I think it is vital we give our student the tools they need to defend themselves and others against bullying.

The books will be used in a small group setting as a book study.

When we use these books in our study it allows students the opportunity to seek out guidance and help to understand things that are happening around them.
