Ms. Harris from Chicago IL is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need art supplies, including glue, markers, paper and erasers, so we can continue doing art projects in the classroom. Our school is art-infused, yet we lack the art supplies needed.

My students lack motivation most of the time. They are tired of constantly doing worksheets and taking paper/pencil quizzes. There are more creative ways for the students to show what they really know. Having these art materials will help us be more creative with the way the students show knowledge.
My classroom is full of first grade students who want to learn, but struggle to do so.
They may come to school and not have eaten breakfast, but came to school too late to receive free breakfast. They have so many problems and issues to deal with at home that 6 and 7 year-Olds should not have to experience. Many parents are not around, on drugs, or work so much that the students don't get to spend any time with them. Coming to school is where these students gain some stability and can rely on their teacher to be there for them. Our school has been ope for 7 years now. They pride themselves on being art-infused, but we lack the materials needed to continue with the arts in the classroom. We don't have access to things such as glue, construction paper, markers, and crayons. Many of the families could not afford to send school supplies in the beginning of the school year, so we did not start off the school year with many supplies.
The students will use the materials on a daily basis. We will use them to create projects that make the curriculum come alive. Instead of doing pencil paper assignments, we can use art so the students can express and show what they learned. We are currently doing an animal unit in science. We can use the paper requested to create the animals and make a zoo to go in the hallway, to show all about the animals that we learned about. When we make the signs that go along with the zoo we can use the glue and glitter to make the sign stand out. This is just one example of how we can use the materials that we are requesting. We use construction paper on a weekly basis to make posters to show what the students are learning about. We also use the construction paper to make arts and crafts.
This project will bring art to my students.
We try to do mini art projects, but often lack the materials needed to really do the projects. I am constantly trying to borrow materials from other teachers, but they don't have the materials either. Having these materials readily available to ensure that we can continue to do art projects through the remainder of the school year.
