My students need technology to use in the classroom. Laptops are needed for students to complete projects, read recent articles, and practice basic computer skills.
Our school is located in a rural area of the panhandle of Florida. Most of my students do not have access to technology at home and many do not have the means to visit our local library. With that said, my students are amazing, hardworking, and imaginative. Everyday, they remind me why I love teaching and bring me great pride in this profession.
Like many teachers before me, I have taken it upon myself to provide my students with the resources they need to be successful not only in the classroom, but in the real world as well.
My Project
As it stands now, our classroom has 1 computer for every 12 students. I wish to change this through the use of technology in small groups. Let's face facts, the public education system no longer considers the integration of technology as a debatable issue in the classroom. In fact, many schools have started to incorporate the technological use of computers and mobile devices in the classroom to further the academic performance of students. Computer technology in the classroom has evolved beyond drill and practice programs. Today's technology can provide teachers and other school faculty with greater opportunities to bring information to their students. This allows educators to prepare students for the future, both in their personal and professional lives.
The computers that I am requesting will open the world to my students and provide them with a plethora of online resources.
I plan on allowing my students to conduct research based projects, create PowerPoint presentations, read digital magazines and novels, as well as use kid-friendly blogging sites to communicate with other classes. Not to mention that recently our school has adopted a new Social Studies curriculum that provides struggling students with online assistance. These computer would allow for differentiated instruction that relates to not only students needs, but their interests as well,
The benefits of using computers in the classroom will change the way my students view learning, keeping them attentive, engaged, and on track for mastering learning goals. If students learn word processing skills and how to navigate computers and the Internet early on, they will be prepared later in life to utilize computers for more complex assignments.
