Help me give my students the resources they need to play indoor dodgeball and kickball. It is so important to have productive and fun indoor games planned for rainy and cold days.

The students at our middle school are a very diverse group. We have many economically disadvantaged students and many transient students. Despite this, they come to school daily eager to learn and eager to improve. We are a Title I school with a population of 700 students ranging from autistic to academically gifted, as well as an ESL population. Demographically it is made up of 85 percent African American children with 100 percent of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch. Physical Education is a vital part of student success.
Being active, learning healthy habits, and developing coping skills is essential for classroom success.
Students grow socially, emotionally, and physically with a constant emphasis on skills to help them persevere on a daily basis. A strong physical education program helps improve students’ academic success. I am in a school where the principal is a strong advocate of student-guided learning with flexible choices and promotes athletics and physical activity as well as academics.
This will give my students the opportunity to play dodgeball and kickball inside the gym. The students will be able to have fun and be safe. Both games are just plain fun while teaching skills for team sports and sportsmanship. I would love to be able to help our physical education teachers develop an intramurals program of dodgeball or kickball to help our students learn skills and release energy. The passion our students have for dodgeball and kickball is so exciting to see and giving them this opportunity will only encourage them more to keep chasing this dream. For several of our students, sports are their only positive outlet and they just need more opportunities like this to keep encouraging them to keep a healthier lifestyle.
