Help me give my students a reliable, accessible, and updated laptop in order to fully participate in online/distance learning.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Freshman year is such a pivotal time in a child's life; they discover the incredible opportunities offered in high school, including athletics, college preparatory organizations, and social clubs. For my kids, this is a time for self-discovery and personal growth. My students must balance a rigorous academic schedule (eight courses), while attending practice for football, band, or poetry club.
Students at my school are resilient, enthusiastic, and unstoppable.
They don't let racial injustice or economic limitations hinder their success. Despite their circumstances, they have dreams to change the world by protesting against human injustices, extending the power of technology, or touching the lives of others.
As schools transitioned to online/distance learning, students were expected to have access to reliable technology and internet. Six months later, students are still on a waiting list to receive a school-issued device. Even so, these faulty school laptops randomly restart, delete student work, or fail to function overall, creating a substantial barrier to student learning.
Without a device, our students continue to lose precious time in the classroom, virtual or physical, since they cannot login to meetings, work on assignments, or utilize online supplemental materials.
The integration of technology into schools will only progress from here, as students are expected to conduct research, produce presentations, and contact instructors online.
Distance learning has left a large population of our students in the dark, specifically children living below the poverty line. They are lagging behind in technological proficiency -- an essential skills for most careers worldwide. With your donation, my students will always have a back-up plan; this reliable laptop will remain in my classroom, where students can utilize it to complete school work and advance their technological skills.
