Every day my children come to school full of energy and an eagerness to learn. At 4 years of age, they spend 7 hours with me daily, learning and growing academically, emotionally, and socially. To them, we are a family during the day when they have to be separated from their biological families. We are a Title 1 school where all children qualify for free breakfast and lunch. For many parents, asking for monetary donations to cover the cost of extra 'needs and wants' is too much. I would love to give them a final surprise at graduation that they so deserve...that sense of pride and unity.
My Project
Graduation is not the end..it is only the beginning - the beginning of a great future of unlimited possibilities. Pre K is so much more than just finger painting, dress up, nap time, and play. These children have worked so hard learning their letters, numbers, sight words, how to read and write....all while accepting how to share, use manners, get along, and adjust to hours without mom or dad. It has been challenging for 4 year olds, yet they come in each and every day willing and ready to conquer the world of Pre K. On that last and final day, there will be tears from the teachers, parents, and children as well, but I would love for them to feel proud as they walk across that stage to accept their Pre K diploma dressed all alike in a cap and gown. In our class we are a family and we want to look like a family at graduation too.
