Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever felt different and not part of the group? My students are at the age where they notice not everyone is the same. Help us find common ground and understanding in our classroom by learning how to be a friend instead of a bully.
I have 110, amazing students of all races and backgrounds that at times seem to not be able to take turns when it comes to cooperative groups and learning in teams during discussions.
At times they tend to not want to interact with all students in a group simply because they are different. My students need examples of what bullies are and how to avoid becoming a bully by working in groups with the book, "Bullying in Schools" by Townsend Press. They need to know that bullying does not always involve physical contact, but emotional contact as well. Bullying needs to be addressed early on to students so that they can be buddies and not bullies with all of their classmates. Help me teach ways to combat bullying to my students and acceptance of all regardless of our physical makeup.
My Project
My students will be able to work and read the book "Bullying in Schools" along with the additional bullying books and build relationships by working on various projects together to make a better school community.. My students will be able to continue their working together by sharing the books in cooperative groups and learn that although we are different and unique, we all can be buddies. With anti-bullying books my students will learn that no one should be excluded based on physical qualities. We will read, write, and learn that together buddies we can be! We will use the laptop to access online anti-bullying information and projects.With the laptop my students will continue their sharing and learning character education traits by listening to read-aloud stories on bullying. They will also work in groups with our new technology and we will be able to download anti-bullying applications and become friends.
These books and laptop will help my students develop a tolerance and acceptance of all students regardless of physical makeup.
They will teach my students that at times something as little as a comment can be considered bullying and it is unnecessary. Furthermore, it will teach my students that we can all be friends and build close friendships with people that we would least expect. Help my students be buddies and not bullies and help us combat bullying early on for a better future.
