My students need two Kindle Fires with cases, a Real Bug Discovery Kit, an insect specimen center, insect magnetic tins, books about insects, and magnifying glasses to have hands-on experiences learning about insects!
We love to learn! These students can't wait to see what school and the world has in store for them and are so enthusiastic about learning! They are highly active and very energetic. They love to be hands on and get SO excited when I say that it is time for science!
Our classroom is filled with 24 bright, beautiful, and blooming first graders who have a thirst for learning as much as they can each and every day.
Our classroom is located in Western Pennsylvania.
My Project
How fun would it be to learn about those little creatures that are all around us? Insects! Each year, our insect unit is a big hit, however, I don't have many resources in my classroom to teach this topic the way that I would like...as hands-on as possible! By adding the resources listed in this project, the first graders in my class will gain learning experiences that will excite them to go out and learn even more!
During this unit, my first graders will feel like real scientists and entomologists while discovering, observing, and researching insects!
The students will use the Kindle Fire Tablets to research insects that are of interest to them and share their findings with the class. They will get the chance to observe actual insect specimens with the Real Bug Discovery Kit. They will engage in bug centers where they need to use magnifying glasses to observe more specimens and have fun learning about insect parts with magnetic tins. Throughout this unit, we will read non-fiction books to learn more about insects, as well.
This is going to be a unit that will have my students going "buggy"!
