My Students

Two words sum up this group of Chicago natives, future leaders. For the seventh year, I have the pleasure of teaching these innovative young scholars who hail from lower income neighborhoods and families. These young, African American students are focused, dedicated, hard working, goal oriented and love to be challenged. Access to equitable resources may not always be available for these kids like it is for other youths in Chicago, but meet them and you’ll be blown away by their potential!

My Project

Every teacher knows that the classroom is her personal art project. In order to encourage our kids to learn and retain information, we have to make sure they have daily reminders posted around the walls. "What was that word we talked about yesterday ?" "What was the math equation again ?" And because they're constantly peeking around, what better way to help make it visually pleasing than to add color!

Let's face it, the world is a colorful place; why can't our classroom be too?

I use my b/w classroom printer to make all sorts of materials for my children (vocabulary cards, word wall posters, reference sheets, etc). One day a student told me, I remembered that key word, because it was in the "green" section which is my favorite color and it clicked for me. Color is a tool for learning also! Since then I've done the majority of my printing at home, which can be taxing carting things back and forth to the classroom. Please consider helping my students and I obtain a color printer for our class.
