I have 22 students in my class this year. We have a diverse class of 5-7 year old children. Our school does not receive federal funding which makes it difficult to keep up with new and advanced methods of teaching with technology.
We have awesome parental support.
However, financial support is limited. Most of my students have some sort of technology at home. They are kind and compassionate and willing to help students that are not as fortunate. Some children only get to use technology at school and they definitely look forward to it!
Our school day mainly consists of technology based lessons. We begin our day with morning announcements online. Every subject has flipcharts used to teach the lessons. Students are leaders and "teach" their peers using online activities. These lessons are engaging and fun. The day ends with dismissal procedures also online.
Often times, our class computer goes offline or crashes for a while.
We then waste valuable instructional time trying to get a "loaner" computer. By the time we get another computer, the students have lost interest in the lesson. A new, updated and reliable computer would be so beneficial for teaching and learning the necessary skills. Without a new, working computer my students will not be able to participate in engaging lessons. With your help they will be able to listen to our weekly reading stories, use extra math resources when a math lesson is not fully understood and even participate in science experiments!
